1. Define the purpose of the business/organization – what they do, structure, who are their customers, etc. What is your job description – what will you be doing, who will you work with, where do you fit in, etc.?
I am at the Duke University Medical Center Library & Archives, and their goal is to provide the services and collections necessary to further educational, research, clinical, and administrative activities in the medical field. Their patrons are Duke Medicine faculty, staff, and students in the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, allied health programs, and graduate programs in the basic medical sciences. My job title is web intern and my job includes creating a new site through WordPress, migrating content and building out the new site, building architecture for site, updating videos, adding closed captioning, updating old blog post, link checking on library guides and analyzing website statistics. Most of my job is involved with the new site and making sure it works and runs smoothly. My co-workers are some librarians and a few people in IT. Throughout the whole Library and Archives, my job falls mostly in the IT department of the work force.

So far I have learned a lot about myself. As much fun as I had in my internship I couldn't see myself working that job for the rest of my life. In my career I want to be out in the field and working with hands on things. I could not see myself working in a desk for the rest of my life. On the other hand the work that I did was fun. I enjoyed making a website and I wish I could have worked more with the other websites. That part of the job I could do. 9. What major problems or frustrations have you experienced or observed in your work? How did you handle it?              My main project was creating a new website for some old material that my boss had and wanted updated. So of course, my main problem came from this project. The problem was that I needed to put videos into my website that had Closed Captioning, but that did not take up a lot of size. I also needed to create the closed captioning for the videos. This was a problem because I did not know how to add closed captioning files to an imbedded video. So, to handle it I talked with my boss about the site and we decided to go with a YouTube player so the closed captioning files could be added easier, and for the closed captioning I found a site that was easy to work on. Because of deciding to go with a YouTube player, and working on a website for CC I fixed my problem of videos on my website.

3. How have your classroom experiences prepared you for the internship? What do you wish you had learned prior to the internship? Many different experiences I have had in the classroom have helped me during my internship. They have helped me with the quality of my work and my ability to change when something needs to be fixed. For example, one of my teachers changed a project after we had worked on it a bit and it helped me learn how to adapt more. Similarly, I had to change a project up a bit after I had worked on it for a while. Other experiences in the classroom have prepared me by improving my quality of work, so when I am working in my internship I can bring a higher quality of work. Before my internship I learned a lot of good skills from many of my classes but there are a few things that I wished I learned before I started.
